A film about the connecting and the dividing between people. Does nationality or the ancestry play a role in daily cooperation? The author goes onto a journey and searches his former classmates.
A first grade school class in Bytom(Poland). Half of the pupils emigrated to Germany. The other half still lives in Poland.
The film tries to ask questions and deal with several subjects, that have in the past been swept under the carpet.
The protagonists of the film are in the age of about 45 years. They've been through a lot in their lifes and left youth behind. They - in a way - stand representative for the destiny of hundredthousands of polish resettlers and emigrants, who found a new home in Germany.
What happened to my old friends and classmates ?
In the film "the divided class", I want to redraw their lifes and their ways .
Are those, who live in Germany pleasant about the fact, that their parents took them and emigrated to the "golden west", into the "old fatherland"? How did they absorb the dramatical changes from communism to capitalism, the loss of the homeland and of motherlanguage ? What happened to them ? Did they fail or got ahead ? And what happened to those, who stayed in Poland ? Do they feal jealous for those, who went ? Do they see their "german" classmates as traitors or pets of fortune ?
